In 2016, the Organizing Committee of the GEDF (Global Economic Development Forum) was invited by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia and the government of Kuala Lumpur. The 4th Global Economic Development Forum was grandly held in Kuala Lumpur, taking the Belt and Road Initiative as an opportunity.

At the summit, political and business representatives as well as scholars from China and Southeast Asia discussed the practical significance and value of China's Belt and Road Initiative for global economic development. They deliberated on how to implement specific cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, finance, culture, and infrastructure between China and Malaysia, as well as among countries along the Belt and Road routes.

This summit boasted a formidable lineup. The Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Laos, members of the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, an assistant to the Prime Minister of Cambodia, officials from the Prime Minister's Department, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Finance of Malaysia, Southeast Asian entrepreneurs, representatives from the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, and a Chinese political, business, and trade delegation of nearly 100 people gathered together, with nearly 300 guests attending the summit. At the summit, 7 achievements were signed and implemented, covering industries such as culture, agriculture, real estate, education, and finance.
