I. Basic Introduction
The Republic of Uzbekistan, is a landlocked country in Central Asia with Russian as its lingua franca. Rich in natural resources, it ranks among the strongest economies in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), second only to Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. In August 2024, Uzbekistani media reported that the country’s nominal gross domestic product (GDP) exceeded USD 100 billion for the first time in 2023. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations with China on January 2, 1992, bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, telecommunications, energy, and non-resource sectors has yielded fruitful results. Uzbekistan is a member of international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and Central Asia Cooperation Organization (CACO), and has joined international financial institutions including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
